Meet Dr. Felty

Certified Specialist in Orthodontics

Dr. Trista Felty

Dr. Trista Felty was born and raised in Pennsylvania – yes she is American (in case you didn’t already notice by her use of the words ‘soda’ and ‘sneakers’ – though her Canadian accent has been improving over the years). She attended Villanova University outside of Philadelphia where she was a dual major and earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Honors Science). She was also a member of the Division I swim team while in college and was a 4 time Academic All American. After college she attended Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry for her Doctorate of Dental Medicine, where she met her husband (he was supposed to be assisting her in the oral surgery clinic and instead suctioned her hair by mistake – but at least the rest of their story was uphill from that!) During dental school she swam the English Channel as part of a 3-person relay team to raise money for MS research, in honour of a Villanova Teammate fighting the disease. Dr. Felty remained at Temple to complete her orthodontic residency program, where she earned her Masters in Oral Biology and a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. She was part of an all female residency class and after graduation, got imported into Canada to her husband’s hometown.

She is a part time faculty member in the graduate orthodontic program at the University of British Columbia. She dedicates a considerable portion of her time serving on various dental and orthodontic committees and boards, on both the local and national levels. She is a passionate advocate for having more members hold various positions in organized dentistry in recognition of the changing landscape of the dental profession.

She was recently elected as the PCSO Trustee to the American Association of Orthodontists Board of Trustees, a position that has a ten year term. In over one hundred years of the association’s existence, Dr. Felty is only the third female, third Canadian and the youngest ever to hold this position.

When she isn’t focusing on teeth, she enjoys being with her family which includes 4 young children (whose shenanigans are often highlighted on our Instagram stories – Raya, Della, Lenna, and Larkin) and two bernese mountain dogs, Bernice and Bernadette. She also loves traveling and seeing all the world has to offer, exploring Canada, and making people smile.
